Robert Gair Building
Walt Whitman Pier
The over game system was designed around narrative and history. The mission drives the exploration and the exploration drives the narrative creating a system where the more missions the players play the more they experience the history of DUMBO.
In each game you learn about the history of DUMBO through three story's and challenges. In each challenge you meet a ghost that gives the premise of the game. After accomplishing the goal you get to hear the story from the ghosts about the historical significance of them and how they affected DUMBO.
The player uses their camera to complete a poem to summon a ghost. More about this game below.
The Mini Games
Player's use AR to write a poem, then get the location to meet the summoned ghost.
The bard of brooklyn - AR Game
All the geometry was based around the relationship to the players perspective. The player's (4) goal of the experience was to escape the maze by finding the purple door (1), almost as if they are trying to escape the designers creative process. I designed a cube (3) that was 3 x 3 meters which was scaled perfectly so the player could see the door peaking above the cube but was not able to jump or scale over it. I also created a hallway (5) which looks like it will lead them to a new room or area which may or may not. Lastly I added a giant cube (2) so the levels would have different heights to scale to, and give the levels some points of interest for navigation.
Players create a cereal box and then submit it with their phone for approval.
In the Bard of Brooklyn challenge you get to learn about Robert Gair the Industrial Tycoon whose company was the first to mass produce cardboard paper.
Design your own cereal brand.
Take photo to send to the Gair Company.
Get approval from the boss and receive the location of your summoned ghost to give him your cereal box.
Player use their voice to recite a sentence in Russian to summon a ghost.
In this game the player is asked to recite a sentence in Russian summoning the ghost to tell there story about her brothers dying during the construction of the Brooklyn bridge.
Listen to each sentence in the original language.
Then speak the phrase to reveal the English translation.
At the end of the game, you'll get the location of your ghost to meet and her here story.
